April 22, 1970 was the date of the first Earth Day. Almost 50 years ago! Since then there has been great progress in protecting the environment, but there is so much more that needs to be done, Unfortunately, there is a blatant disregard on the part of the current administration for environmental concerns and a rolling back of many of the safeguards which had been put in place.  Yet another thing to be concerned about. Yet another thing calling out for action.

Sometimes we feel overwhelmed so for your amusement I have a special Earth Day:  Go to Plymouth Library's online catalog (there's a link on the library's web page) and see how many books the library has that fit into the Earth Day topic.  I'll give you a headstart  You can search "Subject Includes" with words such as "conservation", "ecology", "environmental" (environmental ethics, responsibility, protection, etc), and other topical words. How many titles did you find?  If you answer "a lot", you're right! If you aren't in a game-playing mood, here is a sampling of some of the books in Plymouth Library - for Earth Day and everyday.  You will find many more on the shelves.

First, there are two large, beautiful books in the Reference section that you may look at in the library, They can't be checked out.  They are The Wealth of Nature: Ecosystem Services, Biodiversity, and Human Wellbeing (R333.72 MCN) and A Climate for Life: Meeting the Global Challenge (R 333.9 CLI).  Then look for:
