Plymouth offers many opportunities to engage in both choral and instrumental music:
The Plymouth Choir directed by Douglas Cleveland, serves as Plymouth’s principal choir in worship at 11:00 AM. The choir sings a diverse repertory of sacred music from gospel and world music to anthems ranging from every period of time. The choir also performs several special concerts during the year. Past performances include the Requiems of Durufle, Faure and Mozart, the Creation by Haydn, Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Magnificat. The Plymouth Choir rehearses Thursdays at 7:30 PM with dinner at 6:45 in the lounge. Rehearsals are held in the sanctuary.
The Plymouth Chamber Choir is an auditioned group directed by Douglas Cleveland that sings early music and challenging repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries. The choir usually sings at the 8:45 AM service, but also sings special anthems during the 11:00 AM services. Rehearsals are usually on Thursday following the Plymouth Choir rehearsal, and at 8:15 AM.
The Plymouth Handbell Choir is directed by Douglas Cleveland and plays for worship once a month and Easter and Christmas Eve. It is important for participants to be able to read music. The rehearsals are held in the music room (under the sanctuary) on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
The Plymouth Children's Choir is directed by Rosemary Hashimoto and is open to children in grades 2-7. The choir sings once a month and for special services such as the annual Christmas Eve Family service. The Children’s Choir often has retreats at Pilgrim Firs and Camp Huston and sings for special events in the church. Rehearsals are held in room 223 on Sundays at 12:15 PM. Lunch is provided.
The Puget Brass Ensemble is Plymouth’s Brass Ensemble in Residence, with about 30 members. The Puget Brass play a holiday concert in December and a Spring Concert in May. The ensemble also leads worship for special festival services in the sanctuary. Rehearsals are Tuesday at 7:00 PM in Hildebrand Hall.
