Confirmation for Grades 7 and 8
Room 222
The Confirmation Class is a two-year rotational curriculum. One year focuses on broader questions of faith as it explores a wide range of religious traditions. Another year dives into the Christian faith with a specific focus on the United Church of Christ (UCC). The UCC curriculum, Affirming Faith, is a primary tool that walks confirmands through the UCC statement of faith as it explores topics such as: God, the Bible, Jesus, the wider church, and our response. The Affirming Faith curriculum invites students to be embraced by the love and grace of God, to be God’s servants in the service of others, and to join with others in pursuing the question of what it means to be a follower of Christ. Students in the 8th grade participate in a mentorship program that provides a safe sounding board as they work through questions, assumptions, and personal beliefs. At the end of the 8th grade year students are encouraged to write their own statement of faith and are invited to join the church as full-fledged members.
Engaging My Child
If it is your youth’s first Sunday at Plymouth then we encourage you to accompany your youth to the class in order to meet the teachers and leaders of the class. We request that you complete a registration form provided by the teacher. At any and every point in this process parents are more than welcome to participate and observe in the class. The length of each class is variable. Please see the schedule in the Youth and Family section for each week.
