We know about Saint Francis. He was a rich young man, leading the typically rowdy life of rich young men of the thirteenth century. He became a soldier; he was taken prisoner. Lenten reflection

Lent, the forty days (or forty-six days if you count Sundays) from Ash Wednesday to Easter, is a time of reflection, and for many, a time of abstaining. This year, instead of abstaining from chocolate, for example, (which is full of health-giving properties) you might consider abstaining from fear and anxiety. I may have more on that topic later.

Sanctuary

We have been hearing so much about sanctuary cities (and counties and states) lately. In a sanctuary city, police don't ask people about their immigration status. People don't have to wear the equivalent of a yellow star in a sanctuary city.

Happy New Year?

I am facing 2017 with great fear. I have never been so afraid. The threat of nuclear war didn't worry me as a child.
