We know about Saint Francis. He was a rich young man, leading the typically rowdy life of rich young men of the thirteenth century. He became a soldier; he was taken prisoner. When he returned to Assissi after a year in captivity, he resumed his old life. Then he became ill; he had a strange vision. He embraced a life of poverty; he preached in the streets. Lenten reflection

Lent, the forty days (or forty-six days if you count Sundays) from Ash Wednesday to Easter, is a time of reflection, and for many, a time of abstaining. This year, instead of abstaining from chocolate, for example, (which is full of health-giving properties) you might consider abstaining from fear and anxiety. I may have more on that topic later.
