February 3, 2014
Welcome Reverend Dr. Thomas Stiers to Plymouth during February. Stiers, who worked as Plymouth’s interim minister several years ago, will speak at the upcoming forum, 10 am, Sunday, February 9, in Hildebrand Hall. Bring your Bibles, because Stiers will share some of his favorite Bible passages and participants will share theirs too as part of February’s Encountering Scripture month.
Dr. Stiers, a long-time UCC minister, served both in a Settled Senior Minister capacity and in interim positions, including Senior Pastor in Greenwich, Connecticut for 25 years.
After retiring from Greenwich, Dr. Stiers served as Interim Program Officer at Riverside Church in New York, a 2400 member church, then as Interim Senior Pastor for a 1200 member congregation in Phoenix.
Throughout the years, Dr. Stiers has served UCC outside of his own church, including as a six-year member of the Executive Council of the UCC. He has also served the wider community in many ways and capacities, and he has a particular passion for urban ministry. Graduate of DePauw University, with a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary, Stiers enjoys golf, tennis, travel and opera.
