Our Whole Lives together with Sexuality and our Faith, helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about relationships, health and behavior with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health and society and culture. OWL provides facts about anatomy and human development, and helps clarify personal values, build interpersonal skills and understand social, emotional and spiritual aspects of sexuality.
This fall, six Plymouth youth and two adult leaders begin the multi-session program. “I am recently retired and excited about the Our Whole Lives program. I think it empowers youth to look at their values and learn about relationships,” says long time Plymouth member Margaret Kitchell. “We work with knowledge and skills for navigating choices. I wish I could have had such a program when I was growing up.”
Welcome our other group leader Kevin Peterson, life-long UCC'er and Federal Way Wayside UCC member. Peterson teaches piano, is a freelance musician and Director of Music at Normandy Park UCC. In addition, Peterson serves on the Board of Directors for the national setting of the UCC. He is a pilot and avid hiker.
"It’s an honor to teach Our Whole Lives. I first heard about OWL in high school after going to a different church's sexuality "education" weekend retreat, which was as horrifying as it was factually inaccurate. In contrast, this program is a great opportunity to provide responsible and affirming education - including as it relates to our faith - and to shape the values our youth will be grounded in."Subscribe
