Sixteen Plymouth youth, ages 14 to 18 attended the YF retreat at Lake Cle Elum last weekend. Along with faith moments and discussions, everyone participated in the much anticipated annual Iron Chef competition.
Grouping into three teams (Falling for Food, Tennison Kitchen and The Red Door) and using available, pre-purchased ingredients, each team prepared an appetizer, entrée and dessert to share. Here’s the catch; they must use the designated ‘secret ingredient’ in each dish. This year’s secret ingredient was cornflakes. Working cooperatively, teams discovered creative and delicious ways to compete. Judges David, Robin and Rachael declared Tennison Kitchen the winners with their Italian breaded escargot, glazed chicken over greens and seasonal chocolate crunch. “They were all good, especially considering the random ingredients... and we forgot to bring sugar!” said Robin. “It’s all about learning to work together and building community. One of the biggest things we talked about all weekend is how to love one another and be collaborative in spite of our differences.” —Janice RandallSubscribe
