May 23, 2017
Dear Church Family,
Sunday, May 21, 200+ members of Plymouth Church approved amendments to Plymouth’s Bylaws authorizing the option to establish collaborative ministry, and by a second vote, approved exercising the option for collaborative ministry. This action culminates a nearly year-long process of discerning the best path for Plymouth to move forward on so many fronts. Our usual course, dictated by prior bylaws, required appointing an interim senior minister, appointing a search committee, recruitment, interviews and selection. That process takes a year or more, and is difficult for many, after recent experience of three years of interim senior ministry.
Many thanks for all members, Council members and moderators present and past, for their help, participation and discernment of our action taken on May 21. Special thanks to Susan Berry, Richard Wilson and Mike Pierson for pulling the laboring oars to draft and revise the 2017 bylaw amendments.
We now have the very exciting prospect of completing the United Church of Christ procedures for calling Rev. Kelle Brown and Rev. Steven Davis to service as Plymouth’s collaborative ministers. Another Congregational meeting is scheduled at noon, Sunday, June 11,at noon for this purpose. Please make every effort to attend this meeting to affirm the great skill, energy and abilities that both Kelle and Steve bring to the service of our church needs. This is an important step of validation, which provides Kelle and Steve standing in the broader United Church of Christ community.
After every storm there is calm, and often blue sky. This is our blue-sky moment! Let’s all resolve to support Kelle and Steve to the best of our abilities, and encourage them to make Plymouth their place of ministry for many years to come. -Peace, Your 2017 moderator, Alan Wallace
