Plymouth is a great church! Together, we daily impact lives with a progressive, Christian message that desperately needs to be heard today in our world. That message may be voiced because of you; your participation in bringing church into every day… your time and support to engage in ministry that challenges the status quo and our privilege… your contribution to financially sustain the work and outreach that changes our world. We are greatly blessed! And with blessing comes opportunity.
As we began 2018, we set our sights on an anticipated pledged income of $721,000 and other regular giving (identifiable, not pledged) income toward our total budget of $2,122,546. We utilize rental income and our monthly endowment drawdown, along with special events and offerings, to fund remaining budget needs.
Next week, we receive our first quarter giving statement. To date, we have pledges of $669,568 for the year, a deficit of $51,432 from what we originally anticipated. We still need to hear from some who are in covenant with Plymouth. We can ALL act and DO a few simple things.
First, please contact the church office about how to set up regular contributions for your support of Plymouth and its ministries by becoming an ‘Automatic Giver.’ It’s easy! And your regular support of ministry is assured.
Second, use Simple Church with your smartphone or through Plymouth website! Please connect and utilize this means to establish a regular giving pattern. When you’re on vacation, church ministry still takes place and needs your support. Simple Church gives you access to the church directory of others who share in covenant with us.
Third, sign up for AmazonSmile; designate Plymouth Church Seattle as your charitable designation for purchases. If everyone from Plymouth who buys through Amazon signed up, it could make a significant impact!
Fourth, ask your employer if charitable matching funds are available for your contributions to Plymouth Church. The Wall Street Journal reported last year that billions of dollars of corporate dollars were available for matching donations and went unutilized because employees never requested contributions.
Fifth, look with prayerful consideration at your gifts to God through Plymouth Church UCC, and ask how God invites you to increase your giving, make a pledge if you’ve not already, or begin giving in proportion to your income. For many, percentage giving helps focus putting resources into action. Can you increase your current percentage by 2%? 5%? When we treat ourselves to dinner out, we respond with 15-20% for those who serve us. God invites us to step up and do more as a reflection and response of gratitude for the ministry we share together.
Make the difference and be part of what continues to move this great congregation forward in faith and ministry to our community and beyond. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Yours in grace and hope. – Rev. Steven Davis, Executive Minister
