For those of you who attended the Survey of African American Sacred Music, presented online by Rev. Carlton David Johnson, you may remember that Rev. Johnson frequently referenced themes and ideas from two books: The Burden of Black Religion, by Curtis Evans, and Dark Symbols, Obscure Signs: God, Self, and Community in the Slave Mind, by Riggins R. Earl Jr. If you are interested in checking either of these books out, and having them mailed to you, please let me know at plymouthlibrary@gmail.com.
We have many other books on the Black Church. If you are on the Plymouth Church email list, you received that information in a recent Monday Email. If you are not on our email list, every Monday I send a link to the Library Blog along with Library news. A new blog article is posted every Monday. Check it out here. Let me know if you would like to be added to the email list.
