It is my honor to offer congratulations to Robert on behalf of the staff and membership of Plymouth Church. On June 1, Robert celebrated his 30th anniversary of employment with Plymouth. Robert started as an administrative assistant, hired to support Rev. Susan Yarrow Morris in 1992. Since then, he has been a stalwart of the staff. One of his first tasks on staff was to publish the Herald and it is one of the tasks that he continues to this day, even as he has overseen any number of varying duties throughout his time in service to Plymouth. Most likely you are aware of his easy-going nature and quick laugh as he carries out his work.
Personally, I first got to know Robert as a high schooler and summer custodian on Plymouth’s staff. Robert was one of the nicest staff members and would always take time to ask how I was doing and was genuinely interested in what was going on in my life. His caring nature has been an example to me as I have matured and worked various positions throughout my adult life. He showed me that the way one does their work is just as important as what they do. I am forever grateful for his friendly and inquisitive nature at a formative time in my life.
I would venture a guess that there are few people in Plymouth’s history that have been a part of Plymouth’s staff for 30 years. This is a truly momentous occasion in the life of Plymouth. Robert has noted that not only is this an important milestone in his life but also important for Plymouth as the congregation that has known and supported him over the past 30 years.
On behalf of Plymouth, I give thanks to Robert for his 30 years of service! It has been an honor and privilege to walk alongside Robert for a period of his time at Plymouth. -Rev. Kevin Bechtold
