UPDATE AND CALL TO ACTION JULY 3
(for full context, see earlier article below)
The Seattle City Council has taken notice of our responses to their oversight, since action-minded Real Renters began reaching out to them last week.
We've learned that the Indigenous Advisory Council picks will become finalized any day. The Tribe is asking Real Renters to voice your opposition this weekend. If you have a few more minutes, calling the city council reps would be that much more impactful. Your messages could make the difference.
Here are two sample letters to send to all Seattle City Council members that you can use or change as you see fit. Council members' contact info are below. The Tribe requests that you cc Kendee Yamaguchi, the Deputy Mayor of External Affairs (kendee.yamaguchi@seattle.gov), and Tim Reynon, the Tribal Relations Director (Tim.Reynon-C@seattle.gov).

Don't Allow the Duwamish People to be Excluded from Indigenous Advisory Council
In a city with a strong reputation for being progressive, it’s surprising we have to call out our elected officials, who have somehow excluded the Duwamish People from Seattle’s inaugural Indigenous Advisory Council.
The Tribe has made the following request of Real Renters:
“The Duwamish Tribe has valued the powerful support of the Real Renters, and so the Tribal Council wanted to be sure that we send this copy of a very important correspondence about an injustice to you. To the extent that you are able and willing, the Tribe asks that you contact the Seattle City Council to place the Duwamish Tribe on to the inaugural Indigenous Advisory Council. … For your review, we have attached our formal objection to the denial. Thanks in advance for all you do to stand with the Duwamish Tribe.”
We have provided two sample letters to send to all Seattle City Council members that you can use or change as you see fit. You can find Seattle City Council contact info here and the Tribe also requests that you cc Kendee Yamaguchi, the Deputy Mayor of External Affairs (kendee.yamaguchi@seattle.gov), as well as Tim Reynon, the Tribal Relations Director (Tim.Reynon-C@seattle.gov).
Your help is truly appreciated!
