Prior to helping lead the Poor People’s Campaign rally in Olympia on March 2, Rev. Dr. Kelle Brown joined Yuko Kodama on KBCS to discuss the history and spirit of the Poor People's Campaign. Dr. Brown tells the origin of the movement under Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, and its revival in the past decade under Rev. Dr. William Barber and Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, among others. The movement is vital for democracy, she explains: "We need to lift up those in poverty. No one running for office ever even says the word 'poor.' How can poor people feel empowered to get out and vote when they're so ignored, when their voices have been muted?"
