“Wars are usually fought over stories.”
-- Yuval Noah Harari, Israeli author
An astounding thought. If it strikes a chord of truth in you, then consider volunteering on Sunday morning at the Plymouth Library table.
Mr. Harari was speaking to The Guardian as part of the Lviv Book Forum held last weekend in Ukraine, “bringing writers and readers together live and online in solidarity, defiance and hope.” Hope Matters, the title of The Guardian article published October 6, was taken from the comments of Margaret MacMillan, a Canadian author, also participating in the forum. That a country at war holds up the hope of authors and readers can be seen as a call for Plymouth to dig into the rich resource of its library to help in healing our broken hope and nurture a bold faith.
Witness to the power of story and place words of hope and faith and justice into the hands of your fellow Plymouth worshippers. To find out more, contact Melony Joyce, Plymouth Library Committee Chair, by phone or text at 206.856.4393 or email. One more quote from the same article:
“ Bearing witness in a time of war may be perilous, courageous, reckless or defiant. It is also profoundly necessary.” -- Tetyana Ogarkova, Ukrainian literary scholar and journalist
