Scenes from Vigil and March

Thank you to Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Gordon for photos of the prayer vigil held June 2 at Temple de Hirsch Sinai, followed by a march to St. James Cathedral. She was joined by Rev. Jennifer Castle and Diane Jacobsen, among others.

Dr. Gordon reports:

"Beautiful reflection and music started the vigil. Rabbi Weiner and Rev Dr. Carey Anderson spoke. Aproximately 300-400 marchers headed to St James Cathedral, with police escort. St James filled up with marchers and candles were handed out to everyone.

"There was a reading from Lamentations 3 and a very moving reading of victims' names from Buffalo and Uvalde massacres. Uvalde names were read by 2 young Hispanic girls (10 & 13/14?). Hearing Hispanic children read the Hispanic names of the Uvalde children was very touching and brought home the reality, the lives, the potential, that was lost due to gun violence. Not a dry eye.

"Then there was a reflection by Rev. Steve Thomason of St Mark's Cathedral, and litany of prayers for victims and peace by multiple speakers/traditions, and a candle lighting with guitar music. Hear our prayers!"

The day after the vigil and march, Faith Action Network issued this statement:

"Our prayers and marching were followed today with action, as some FAN representatives stood with the Alliance for Gun Responsibility, advocates, lawmakers, and Attorney Bob Ferguson, pledging Washington will lead the way for continued gun violence prevention policies. Let’s continue our advocacy together!"
