With the approval of the Congregational Council, the Moderator has sent letters to 13 public officials informing them that the Council supports the efforts of the Duwamish people to secure recognition as a federally-recognized tribe. The letter was sent to Hon. Deb Haaland, the Secretary of the Interior, which has jurisdiction to recognize native tribes, United States Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and Washington State’s 10 members of the House of Representatives.
