On September 17, more than 1,100 passionate community members came together for Plymouth Housing’s signature Key to Hope luncheon. To everyone who contributed, thank you for championing Plymouth’s evidence-based, heart-centered approach to ending homelessness. Together, we raised over $1.5 million to help our neighbors find safety, stability, and healing.
Dr. Vivek Murthy, former U.S. Surgeon General, delivered a keynote that was both urgent and deeply moving. He spoke about loneliness as a public health crisis — as dangerous as smoking or diabetes — and emphasized the transformative power of human connection. Dr. Murthy praised Plymouth’s work as a model of what’s possible when we meet people with compassion, dignity, and belonging. His words reminded us that connection isn’t just healing. It’s lifesaving.
Attendees also experienced Plymouth’s mission through a short video. Plymouth is not a shelter — it’s a place where people find permanent homes and receive wraparound care to support their journey out of homelessness. Watch the video to hear powerful stories from residents who have found peace, purpose, and connection through Plymouth.
With author, speaker, and connection coach Shari Leid as our guest emcee, the program featured heartfelt remarks from event Co-Chairs Ronnie Henderson and Deborah Ross, Plymouth CEO Karen Lee, and Julissa McWashington of Starbucks, our Presenting Sponsor. A special thanks to musician Alex Ashley, whose authentic performance added a memorable touch to the event.
One of the most moving moments came when Governor Bob Ferguson honored Plymouth resident Searetha with the Washingtonian of the Day Award. Her story of resilience, advocacy, and transformation is a powerful testament to what’s possible when people are given the chance to thrive.
On behalf of the Plymouth Housing staff and Board of Trustees, thank you for being part of this movement. If you weren’t able to attend this year’s luncheon, we invite you to make a gift today. Every contribution helps us move closer to a community where everyone has a home and can live with dignity and hope.
