The Dog Days of Summer

The Dog Days of Summer

"dog days. the sultry part of the summer, supposed to occur during the period that Sirius, the Dog Star, rises at the same time as the sun: a period marked by lethargy, inactivity, or indolence."

It seems as if we're in the middle of the dog days of summer. If the temperature continues to zoom in the coming days, I've got some advice for you: wear a hat to keep the sun off your head, hydrate with a frosty glass of fresh lemonade or iced tea, and find a shady place to sit while you read a good book - maybe one of the new books of the week from Plymouth Library.

The phrase "the dog days of summer" doesn't actually have anything to do with dogs, but I couldn't resist using this photo of Tuffy, my grandparents' dog, sipping tea while sporting a boater hat.

Since I am being literal about  "the dog days of summer", I have gathered a list of books about dogs for you. Most of them are picture books. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - they're not just for kids. Get a whole stack of them for those times when you have a short attention span or just a few minutes of leisure - about the amount of time it will take you to down your cooling beverage. We have lots more!
