Please join author and Plymouth member Don Mayer as he reads from his new book, Riding Kid Writes Home: The Remarkable Adventures of a Teen-Age Cowboy in the Years of the Great Depression.
Feb 21, 1930: “Dear Ma, I am going to Montana ...” With that postcard notification, 14-year-old “Riding Kid”Carl Mayer left home to follow his cowboy dreams. Carl Mayer's nephew, Don Mayer, combed through scores of letters the “Riding Kid” wrote home in order to create this look at an adventurous life during the 1930s. Don says, “I think it is a very significant picture of an era, unique I think, including an implicit powerful testimony to at least three traditional values: commitment to family, education, church.” He feels the book would be of interest to ages from middle school to adult readers. Books will be available at Plymouth 10 am, Sunday, November 1, a great holiday gift. —Suzanne SandersonSubscribe
