Council Corner

September 10, 2019

The Church Congregational Council plans to keep the congregation informed by describing recent Council activities as a regular feature in the Herald.

This is an exciting time for Plymouth as we learn to journey together in covenant to build God’s ‘kin-dom’ of love here on earth in the form of an intergenerational, interracial, multicultural, multigendered, multi-abled, and income-diverse faith community that values welcome, peace, and justice for all.

Yet, while these ideals fill us with joy, the road is not always easy—we recognize there will be bumps along the way as we blend our stories together and experience different perspectives and interpretations of living out the Gospel. We ask for blessings as we continue to lean on one another in faith.

This week we want to let you know of a proposal for three new Council committees, which we hope to have implemented within the next few months.

  1. Undoing Racism Task Force – To focus on recognition of the role of white privilege, white supremacism and racism in our country and at Plymouth, and take steps to change their impacts on all aspects of our life together.
  2. Human Resources – To focus on ensuring appropriate employment policies and procedures are implemented and communicated clearly, and to assist clergy and Council in providing a supportive, accountable work place.
  3. Pastoral Relations – To focus on strengthening and deepening the relationship between our clergy and our congregation.

Details are still in development. Please contact Council members Elizabeth Gordon at or Ruth Williamson at  if you have comments.
