The US census takes place in spring 2020. This is a once-in-a- decade opportunity for our country to count every person residing in our communities nationwide. Getting counted in the census is vital for our community to receive the resources it needs to thrive. The data gathered through the census is used to distribute funds for schools, health and social services, roads, and the other programs that make our community a special place to live and raise a family. In addition, getting counted tells politicians in that you matter and that you care about our community’s future. For these reasons, we strongly encourage all residents of our community get counted in 2020. There is a lot at stake!
The goal of the census is to count every inhabitant of our country. These statistics are used to distribute billions in federal funding for everything from roads and schools to housing and human services. If our communities aren’t fully counted, we won’t get our share of federal funds. In fact, Washington State estimates that $4,800 per year is at risk for every household that isn’t counted. More than most people, we understand the importance of community services and public infrastructure.
