Gift Cards Needed for KIND

December 12, 2020

Plymouth’s Immigration Ministry Team invites the Plymouth community to help provide some holiday cheer to the unaccompanied immigrant children and youth served by Kids in Need of Defense (KIND). KIND provides representation to undocumented children and youth who arrived in the U.S. without a parent or guardian and who have been placed into immigration removal proceedings. The pandemic has been especially hard on KIND’s children and youth clients with many clients and their family members having tested positive for COVID-19, some losing family members to the disease, and many losing their jobs and  housing due to the pandemic. Over the past several years, Plymouth has brought a lot of joy to KIND’s most challenged clients by holding a gift drive during the holidays to support KIND’s children and youth clients.

This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the children are unable to come together for a holiday event in person so KIND staff will be mailing store gift cards and treats to the kids to provide a little holiday cheer and extra support. To participate, please purchase $25.00 , $50.00, or $100 store gift cards from Target, Fred Meyer, or Ross and mail them to KIND’s Seattle office at 1215 Fourth Avenue, Suite 1925, Seattle, WA  98161. You can participate even without leaving your home as you can purchase gift cards on-line from the store’s website and instruct the store to send the cards directly to KIND’s office.  Cards can also be dropped off at Janet Gwilym’s house. Most cards need to be received by December 16th in order for KIND to send them out to the kids in time for Christmas, though later card donations are also welcome to help the kids meet pandemic generated needs. Thank you for bringing some light to unaccompanied children and youth during this season of darkness! -Janet Gwilym
