Growing from Stewardship to Covenant

October 2, 2018

“What Shall We Bring?” This theme from the UCC global church will be ours as well during this time of sharing intentions for our support of Plymouth Church UCC ministry for 2019! We’ve all experienced annual stewardship campaigns, and I know how excited we feel in anticipation (please add your own measure of sarcastic interpretation here).

This year, we hope to expand our experience of participation in the annual budget funding campaign to reflect a more comprehensive expression of how we bring our whole selves to the relationship of covenant community. We desire to expand our understanding of how we covenant together to support the ministry of Plymouth Church UCC community through our (1) Intentional Faith Formation, (2) Our Engaging and Connecting, (3) Our Generosity, (4) Our Service and (5) Our Witness through Sharing. When new people come into covenant relationship at Plymouth Church UCC, we embrace them in the new relationship we share together as faith community.

As we consider this year’s theme, we focus on who we are and what we can grow to become as people in covenant together through ways of participating. Step beyond the “how much can I give?” to “How else can I more fully support this relationship?” New 2018-19, we offer opportunities to self-select how we want to share our time through new Volunteer Ministry opportunities. Plymouth people have many talents and ways to contribute. Our aim is to match needed task opportunities to your desire to volunteer time and talents!

“What Shall We Bring?” gives us the opportunity to grow in faith, participation and build relationships, explore how our resources can empower ministry, pinpoint where our time can contribute to service and envision how our sharing of God at work in us through Plymouth Church UCC transforms our community and the world.

Our vision compels us to be a Christian community open to the transforming Spirit of God, and our purpose unites us in growing people of faith who participate in God’s work in the world. We take seriously the opportunity to share ourselves through our time, talents and treasure to be fully claim our identity as Church! We are a people of abundance, rather than scarcity. Standing in all these truths of who we are, step forward to “do justice, love kindness and walk… humbly” with God as together, we respond to “What Shall We Bring?” – Yours in grace and hope, Rev. Steven Davis, Executive Minister
