Plymouth’s Immigration Ministry Team and Church School invite you to provide some comfort to an unaccompanied immigrant child this Advent and Christmas season by participating in the toy (and other supplies) drive for Kids in Need of Defense (KIND). KIND provides legal representation to unaccompanied and separated immigrant children (ages 3 to 21 – mostly teens) while they face removal proceedings in the Seattle Immigration Court and apply for humanitarian immigration relief. For the past few years, the Plymouth community has generously rallied to gather comforting toys and other survival items for the children. These donations have provided comfort and smiles to the kids throughout the year as they meet with staff to work on their cases. When the kids meet with their attorneys, they choose a toy or coloring supplies to play with while discussing the difficult trauma that they’ve experienced. Sometimes the kids take a chosen stuffed animal to court to provide extra courage when talking with the immigration judge. In addition, some of KIND’s older kids experience housing instability and are in need of items to help them survive (warm coats, cell phone battery packs, etc.).
Visit the Giving Tree in the Plymouth lounge and choose a tag with an item you wish to donate. Return unwrapped, new (unused) items to the decorated KIND box in the lounge or church office by Sunday, January 5th. Thank you for your generosity!Subscribe
