Just Mercy: Civil Rights Mission Trip

July 17, 2018

As beloved members of our congregation and staff, along with people from several other area churches (30 total) continue their Civil Rights mission trip to the South, please hold them in your thoughts and prayers.

Their week begins with Sunday morning worship at Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, followed by a visit to Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthplace, the King Center Memorial and the Atlanta Civil Rights Museum. Monday, the group travels to Birmingham/Montgomery, Alabama, where they tour the Rosa Parks Museum. Tuesday, they travel to Selma and walk the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Wednesday in Montgomery, they visit the Dexter Avenue Church, Dr. King’s church during the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and tour the Freedom Riders Museum. Thursday takes the group to the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Legacy Museum. Friday begins with the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. At the end of each day, the group convenes for evening discussion about the day’s learning.

Saturday, the bus returns to Atlanta, when they return home to Seattle. Many thanks to the Museum without Walls, Rev. Dr. Kelle Brown and all who helped organize this community-wide, life-changing mission trip.
