Are you a Christian who supports the LGBTQ community but who wishes that more churches were as supportive as you are? Do you feel ill-equipped to have difficult conversations with Christian family and friends—much less a pastor and other church leaders—about their views on the topic and their interpretation of Scripture when it comes to same-sex relationships and transgender people?
Plymouth Church UCC hosts this year’s Reconcile and Reform Conference to help you become a confident and effective advocate for LGBTQ inclusion in our church and other faith communities. Speaking up about LGBTQ inclusion can be scary and isolating. Come learn about the biblical case for LGBTQ inclusion, meet other affirming Christians, and hear from a diverse group of leading voices in the movement at the annual conference!
The Reformation Project’s promotion of LGBTQ inclusion in the church is grounded in three core values:
• A love for God
• A love for the Bible
• A love for the church
It’s because of those values—our love for God, the Bible, and the church—that we are passionate about seeing churches fully affirm and include LGBTQ people. It’s because of those values that we seek to advance LGBTQ inclusion in the church in an intersectional way, emulating the life and teachings of Jesus by honoring the image of God in those most marginalized in our community.
Through inspiring keynotes from LGBTQ Christian leaders, teaching from respected Bible scholars and theologians, worship, and workshops, the Reconcile and Reform conference will equip and empower you to help advance LGBTQ inclusion in your church in a Bible-based, Christ-centered way. Featured speakers this year include:
Justin Lee, author of Talking Across the Divide and Torn: Rescuing the Gospel from the Gays-vs.-Christians Debate
Pastor Candace Hardnett, Senior Pastor of Agape Empowerment Ministries in Savannah, Georgia
Matthew Vines, author of God and the Gay Christian and executive director of The Reformation Project
Nicole Garcia, Synodically Authorized Minister at New Beginnings Worshiping Community in Denver, Colorado
Whether you are LGBTQ or straight, you are welcome at the Reconcile and Reform Conference. Whether you are LGBTQ-affirming or not, if you are open to learning more, we would love to have you. The conference will be hosted at Plymouth Congregational Church UCC in downtown Seattle from November 7-9, 2019.
If you can help with hospitality, to greet and give directions, please call the church office (206.622.486500 or e-mail Rev. Steven Davis, SDavis@PlymouthChurchSeattle.org.
