This Sunday is Pentecost

May 25, 2019

Pentecost, a major day in the church calendar, arrives 50 days after Easter and marks the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, helping fulfill their mission to “preach the Gospel to all nations.” For this reason, Pentecost is also called “the birthday of the Church.” Our gifts remind us that we are all “being church” together and that “church” began at Pentecost.

Pentecost special offering is one of four special offerings collected throughout the church year to support national and local ministries within the UCC. Our June 9 gifts will be divided evenly between Strengthen the Church and Plymouth UCC Scholarship Fund.

As called by General Synod, half of our offering to Strengthen the Church stays in the Pacific Northwest Conference UCC, and half is sent to the national work of strengthening the church universal: through grants towards new church starts, inspiring youth and young adults into leadership and equipping pastors for ministry in the 21st century.

With summer camps coming up, amounts given in Plymouth UCC scholarships have tripled over the last five years. Your gifts to Plymouth UCC Scholarship Fund enable members and friends in financial hardship take part in the numerous opportunities offering by and through Plymouth UCC!
