What Shall I Bring?

October 23, 2018

What shall we bring to Plymouth’s work on immigrant justice? This past summer, Plymouth’s Church Council voted to elevate the Plymouth Immigration Ministry to be a core part of the church mission. This means Plymouth is collectively striving to deeply explore how our faith calls us to welcome our immigrant neighbors, educate ourselves on current pressing immigration issues, devise appropriate actions and coordinate with organizations and settings of the church to walk alongside and learn from immigrant and refugee communities in our region as they face tremendous challenges. This is a very scary and trying time for our immigrant and refugee neighbors. Every day, we hear about refugees trying to make their way to the Southern border to seek asylum and protection. This summer we saw the government-made family separation crisis. Unaccompanied children continue to arrive by the tens of thousands. Government departments are sharing personal information of immigrants to immigration law enforcement entities.

What shall I bring? As we grow this core mission of our church, I will bring a sense of deep gratitude for our immigrant neighbors for I have learned that when I am with and accompanying immigrants, I am with children of God and I experience the divine through them. I invite you to join me! –Janet Gwilym
