Welcome Debbie Baden! Debbie currently serves as Council Secretary.
Tell us why you are on Council, how you currently serve and how you have served in recent years.
I'm on Council because I feel a need to become more involved with Plymouth leadership. I haven't been active on a Plymouth committee for many years and feel good about our current ministers and leadership.
How long have you been involved with Plymouth Church UCC?
I joined Plymouth in November 1981 with my first husband and our one-year-old son.
What do you enjoy most about Plymouth?
I like the community and the way our worship inspires and gives me hope. I have had many life-enriching experiences at Plymouth and our church-sponsored camps. I developed long-term friendships that support and sustain me as a person.
How does who you are spiritually inform your role at Plymouth and how has your involvement with Plymouth changed you?
I always believed in God and the power of the Holy Spirit to guide me in my life and my work in the world. I regularly pray and meditate to center myself. I believe God is present everywhere; praying is not confined to church buildings or any building. I pray anytime, anywhere.
I worked for over 30 years in healthcare, specifically in health insurance. For the past 16 years, I've worked at Kaiser Permanente (formerly Group Health) in provider systems administration.
Other church-related activities:
I've volunteered at the Conference-level (Pacific NW Conference UCC) for almost 20 years. I currently serve on the Committee on Ministry and have served on Church Development Committee, Ministry Resources Committee (the Conference's nominating committee) and the Board of Directors. Through Conference work, I've gotten to know many people across the state and learned a lot about churches. I enjoy the community that is the Pacific NW Conference UCC; it has helped me learn about our denomination and how I can best serve.
I have five children - three adult children who grew up at Plymouth (all in their 30s) and two stepchildren in their early 20s. I also have three grandchildren (two boys who live in Pennsylvania with my daughter and her husband and one girl who lives here with my son and his wife). My husband and I live in Shoreline and share our home with two of our adult children.
Favorite leisure activity…
Reading, listening to music, watching movies and singing (I'm a long-time Plymouth Chancel Choir member). I also enjoy walking and spending time with my family.
Plymouth Church UCC Worship is experienced on a Zoom Webinar platform, on our Plymouth YouTube Channel and Facebook pages each Sunday as we return to our program year format. Please join us for Worship, then for Coffee Hour ONLINE following on the separate Zoom meeting link.
We look to God for the breaking of oppression and healing in the land. Let us stand together with one voice as we watch, fight, and pray with life prioritized.
