Homeless Women Need Shelter

March 16, 2014

We ask for your support to help homeless women survive and thrive. Please call our leaders today to advocate for a new year-round, low-barrier women’s shelter. Help women have shelter after April 1.

The low-barrier, loving, come-as-you-are winter shelter run by Women’s Housing Equality & Enhancement League (WHEEL) at Plymouth Church closes April 1. This year, our shelter has seen more women than ever before — an average of 50-60 women in a space comfortable for 35. We see many newly homeless women. Some are elderly and many are very vulnerable. Without shelter, people die.

For a year WHEEL has been calling for a new, year-round, low-barrier women’s shelter. The need for such a shelter is a crisis, now. As a small grassroots organizing effort, WHEEL cannot run such a year-round shelter, but SOMEONE must! And there must be something in place before April 1, because many women’s lives are at stake. Act now!

All are invited to the WHEEL thank-you luncheon, noon, Wednesday, March 19, in Hildebrand Hall
