A huge thank you to Plymouth! Through your support of Plymouth Healing Communities, you have made possible six new apartment homes for residents living with mental illness. May 16 was an exciting day as we celebrated the new apartments and what they will mean in the lives of those who will live there. These new apartments are well designed and constructed, and affordable to those with little or no income. A very special aspect of Plymouth Healing Communities apartments is that they come with the opportunity to participate in our Community Companion program.
Rev. Brigitta Remole led the program describing Plymouth Healing Communities as “a radical social innovation born 14 years ago.” She described it as a ministry anchored in Plymouth Church and served in myriad ways by the congregation. She spoke of the group’s work as being at the heart of healing and hope in Seattle, seeking the well being and dignity of those among us who live with mental illness.
The program continued with celebration of all who made these new apartments possible, our Harborview partner, project funders, contractor and Plymouth’s Elizabeth Maher, who did an outstanding job as architect for the project. The celebration concluded with City Councilmember Sally Bagshaw expressing appreciation for Plymouth’s commitment to serving all who live downtown, especially the most vulnerable among us.
Festivities concluded with ribbon cutting and tours of the new apartments. —Gary SouthertonSubscribe
