Second of the three-part Forum Immigration Series, 10 am, Sunday, Sept 21, in the Lounge will focus on root causes of why so many adults and children from Mexico and Central America are forced to flee their countries.
Experience the rare opportunity to hear from an individual who works each day in the trenches with youth who face poverty, gang violence and drugs. Lucy Luna, current Director of Ashoka “Avancemos” Program for El Salvador and Guatemala, founded “Barefoot Angels.” This program provides educational opportunities for youth, ages 7-18, who live on the street. Luna was selected as an iLeap International Fellow in 2011 and is known to many in the Seattle international development community.
The child migrant humanitarian crisis points to much that is needed beyond stronger walls and tougher border security. Luna will share examples of measures that can be taken to strengthen communities and empower youth so they thrive in their homeland.Subscribe
