A few years ago I decided I needed to sing every chance I could. That was not long after a handful of Plymouth members were singing soul music with Sari Breznau for intermittent performances. Hearing them, I thought 'I want to do that!'
Music flows through Sari. She has an amazing talent and love for the task. Sari guides people through music, teaches rhythm, diction and song without you ever realizing you are being taught. She makes it all available within your grasp and enables you to let the music flow through you.
I hold firmly to the belief that singing in a group has the potential to create community. There you are, together with people you may or may not know very well. We bring our concentration, breathing and voices together to create something bigger than a song, to create joy, both within and outside ourselves. And somewhere along the line, you realize you are being held together by an invisible bond. It is a wonderful experience. So every Sunday I can manage it, I show up for Soul Choir. You could too!
In hopes of extending this experience, our little pick-up choir will host an evening of music and fun at Plymouth Saturday, Feb. 14, and invite you all to join us for Big Love, a talent show that is sure to include some time for a bit of silliness and laughter. Do come...we are going to have FUN!–Vicki Schoettle
