February 10, 2015
Wednesday, February 4, 2015, Plymouth Church members gathered for the 145th Annual Meeting. Usual and customary business was conducted – acceptance of minutes of the 144th meeting, election of officers, Council and board members and Church financial reports. Doug James, Budget Committee Co-Chair, presented an overview of Council's recommended 2015 budget. The budget contained cuts to expenses in order to deliver a balanced budget.
The meeting offered an example of gracious and courteous exchange of ideas and thoughts about our 2015 budget. A lively debate took place regarding whether to operate with a deficit and use funds from our Endowment to cover expense overage. A motion was respectfully submitted to do just that. The motion did not carry, though it was very close.
Much praise was given to Doug and Co-chair Al Wallace for their hard work preparing this budget. The budget recommended by Council was approved by the majority vote. It means we must tighten our belts a bit, spend less on food, music, library and mission. I am pleased we could come together and have a passionate discussion on the budget.
Rev. Brigitta Remole provided a spiritual context with Bible references in which to review our coming year. Brigitta also gave us hope and expectation for a year of opportunity. I am proud of the outcome and the love and support given to all who attended. Moderator Nancy Parker was thanked for her good work and passed the baton to me as your new Moderator. Nancy assured folks that the Congregational Council plans a series of meetings to explore what is ahead for all of us. We will do great things this year; may God bless us all as we continue to serve others. –Jon Palmason, ModeratorSubscribe
