Summer in Seattle means taking full advantage of great weather and enjoying the many activities available to downtown residents, professionals and visitors. As a downtown outreach, Plymouth cosponsors downtown noon concerts in collaboration with Downtown Seattle Association (DSA). Our sponsorship offers opportunities to set up onsite for three outdoor concerts, where Plymouth volunteers and staff host an information table, meet with hundreds of people from all walks of life and share information about Plymouth. In addition, Plymouth’s logo appears on all publications and banners distributed by DSA.
This year’s Plymouth onsite concert dates are: Friday, July 10, at Westlake Center with The Maldives (dueling guitars, sweeping ballads and full harmonies), Wednesday, August 12, at Two Union with St. Paul de Vence (acoustic, multi-instrumental songs, soulful harmonies and anthemic choruses) and Friday August 21, at Freeway Park with Lee Oskar (legendary harmonica virtuoso). Find complete Out to Lunch Concert Series schedule at: DowntownSeattle.com. Outgoing, music-loving Plymouth volunteers are needed! Please contact Janice at JRandall@PlymouthChurchSeattle.org.
Also this summer, we collaborate with Ventures (Plymouth’s community investment loan partnership, formerly Washington Cash) to bring their food truck to Sixth and University. Another entrepreneurial Ventures project, a one-woman ice cream cart, will visit Plymouth’s sidewalk during our Music & Arts Summer camp to offer ice cream for kids and business neighbors at a discounted price.
In August, Plymouth launches a new Plymouth outreach noon event in the Sanctuary. SPARK! Spirit worth sharing, offers more than a soundbite…simply appreciate life’s boundless complexities and possibilities—SPARK illuminates the spirit with live music, shared conversation and human connection with people making a difference.
SPARK begins Thursday, August 6, with incomparable jazz guitarist Michael Powers who is celebrating his 30th anniversary cd release. Speaker to be announced soon! All are welcome at noon, Thursday, August 6.
New Art Exhibition
Also in August (in addition to SPARK and Plymouth’s much-loved first Thursday labyrinth walk) a new art exhibition will bring Hildebrand’s walls to life with the soulful, bold abstract colored pencil art of Tyree. The creative and talented Tyree draws inspiration from artists such as Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall. Meet the artist 4 to 6 pm, Thursday, August 6, in Hildebrand Hall. Art will hang for the entire month of August. Read more about Tyree at: TyreeColorPencilsGallery.com. –Janice Randall
