Resolutions Passed at General Synod

July 14, 2015

The General Synod of the United Church of Christ, became the latest church to call for divestment and boycott of companies that are complicit in the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. “The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is one of the most enduring and consequential conflicts of our age,” said the Rev. Jim Moos, executive minister of UCC Wider Church Ministries. “Given the injustices and ongoing violence…the resolution calls on the church to engage in specific, nonviolent actions top help end the ongoing conflict and establish justice and peace.”

A resolution to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy also passed, as one of the ‘most compelling and urgent moral issues of our times.’ UCC will insist upon swift and measurable action with state and federal governments while modeling these commitments in buildings and allocation of resources.
