Council Corner

November 3, 2015

Council held its October meeting last week. I set a record for holding the longest Council meeting in modern history! Because we have a lot on our plates, we addressed a number of issues.

We heard from Adele Reynolds (Peace Action Group) and approved a plan to begin the process to become a “Just Peace” church per National UCC standards. We also heard updates on stewardship, budget and nominating.

Our main focus was to hear from the Implementation Team (Bing Tso, Lori Kaid, Kevin Bechtold and Mark Sandstrom). They presented an “Action Plan” draft, a document that outlines our path for the next three years. It includes recommendations from the “McKinney Report” along with work generated from Rev Cameron Trimble’s October visit.

In just over three weeks, the team worked with the main architect of the plan, Senior Minister Brigitta Remole, to create an impressive and powerful document. I am excited to share it with the congregation. Council needs more time to be sure the document is ready for our membership. We will hold a special meeting Tuesday, November 10, dedicated to the “Action Plan.” Hopefully, we can release the document to the congregation by mid-November. After this plan is released, Council will schedule opportunities for folks to gather, ask questions and provide feedback. Our regular monthly meeting was moved to November 17, due to Thanksgiving. Stay tuned! Blessings to you all. –Jon Palmason. Moderator
