Council Corner

May 3, 2016

Your Congregational Council met last week and was saddened to learn our Senior Minister was going on medical leave due to health reasons. As stated in my letter to all member households, Rev. Remole will probably return the end of May.

This is a challenging time for Plymouth UCC, one in which we have experienced disagreement, loss, anger and sorrow regarding the recent resignation of our former Music Director. Circumstances and substantial grief have been an incredible challenge. Recent gatherings have not been in Plymouth’s best tradition; our culture of love, trust and support has been difficult to maintain. I simply ask you to give Council time to pull everyone together as a church and resolve our differences. I believe the essence of our issues is not about the former Music Director or our Senior Minister. It is rooted in who we have become and seek to be as a church. We are working with Conference Minister Rev. Mike Denton to help design a process that will mediate our concerns and bring us to a resolution. Your patience will foster an atmosphere where reconciliation is possible.

It is important for all of us to continue our work to see who we are and realize our objective, which is to help others. To do that, the Action Plan is our force and I encourage you to find a path for your participation. Forms are available in the church office to volunteer for one of the many objectives to renew our foundation.  You may choose from: Membership Engagement, Financial Sustainability, Faith Formation and the re-write of bylaws regarding governance.

This is a great opportunity for all of us to pitch in and help rebuild this wonderful church of ours.  I ask for your prayers and offer my commitment to help this church at this time; reconciliation is my middle name. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns: Many Blessings, Jon Palmason, Moderator
