Plymouth is on the road to recovery. I feel it and see it every Sunday — folks smiling, hugging their neighbors, greeting new visitors and best of all? Folks ask, “How can I help?” Yes, we have begun to heal; the road is long and we are on the right path. Participate in worship this fall and experience something special. How about the standing ovation for Pastor Brown after her uplifting sermon, “Chosen,” last Sunday? Chancel Choir and Soul Choir joined forces at 9 am to sing One Day to a full and appreciative early service.
This is an important week for you and your church. Council will address several important issues. Most significantly, we hear from Rev. Jan Van Pelt, the covenant-making facilitator, as we continue to seek ways to be church together. We will also hear from the Reverend Elizabeth “Liz” Oettinger, former Plymouth minister, who recently retired as Senior Minister at First Congregational Church UCC in Corvallis, Oregon. Rev. Oettinger offers over 35 years of experience as a UCC minister. As we explore our new ministry leadership model, the Council looks forward to drawing on Liz’s experience and expertise as a consultant. As Kelle and Steve continue leading collaboratively, she will be a resource during this time of discernment while sharing best practices of shared ministry. Rev Oettinger has also been invited to deliver the message Sunday, October 23.
Last but not least, we will review the Action Plan, understanding we are addressing important issues to rebuild our foundation: governance, engagement, worship, finance and faith formation. The Implementation Team continues to recruit task force members.
Thank you for your support; be engaged. Let’s come together in worship and extend our hands in Christian love to all. Bless, Bless. —Jon Palmason, ModeratorSubscribe
