November 1, 2016
Plymouth is an exciting place to be right now! Attendance is up, preaching has been outstanding and up to 12 folks will join next month. Council is working hard on our covenant process, collaborative ministry, 2017 budget, stewardship and Action Plan.
We met with Rev. Jan Van Pelt, learned more about our covenant process and reviewed a draft to share with you, the congregation. The idea is to learn the content of the covenant together and provide opportunities for questions and feedback. Then, we will approve the covenant and ask members to sign the document. We hope to dedicate a Sunday in early January, 2017 for this event. Watch for announcements soon to introduce the covenant.
Council also met with Rev. Liz Oettinger, for her report on her work with collaborative ministry. Liz and the Council looked at the 2018 calendar for future dates to study this new form of ministry. Liz delivered a wonderful sermon October 23, and led a lively discussion in Faith & Life to help us learn more about the collaborative ministry model. She plans to be with us at least twice in November and December.
We also reviewed Action Plan initiatives now being addressed including: engagement, finance, governance, faith formation and worship. Task forces have been created or are in the process of being formed. These vital actions need our energy and attention.
Several opportunities are available for you to ask questions of Council members. All are invited to a pancake breakfast provided by your Council, 10 am, this Sunday November 6, in Hildebrand. The following week, a Council Town Hall takes place at 12:30 pm, with light lunch in Hildebrand, an opportunity to hear about covenant-making and collaborative ministry. Another Town Hall is slated for 12:30 pm, Sunday, December 4.
Don’t miss an important 10 am hour Faith & Life, Sunday, November 20, when Council’s Budget Committee offers a first look at 2017 budget.
Thank you for your good wishes, support and excitement for Plymouth. I am so grateful to all of you and the love we share for our church. Blessings to you all. –Jon Palmason, Moderator
