The Rohachi (prayers and fasting) Zen practice happens from December 1 through 8. In fasting, one can concentrate the mind on the present moment, and intentions can have greater clarity.

The Nipponzan Myohoji order Rohachi practice of fasting and prayers has focused on abolishing nuclear weapons and nuclear plants and ending disasters like Chernobyl and Fukushima. Founder monk Nichidatsu Fujii requested in the early 1960s that monks and nuns support Indigenous American and Afro-American peoples. –Adele Reynolds, Plymouth Peace Action Group
