Celebrate PRIDE Sunday!

June 20, 2017

This Sunday, Seattle will be a rainbow of color when folks come out to support our LGBTQ community and parade up 4th Avenue to Seattle Center. With all causes for justice, the fight for equality and standing together against oppression calls for us all to be in solidarity. If you’ve marched for women, immigrants, black lives, environment, workers’ rights, prisoners, Standing Rock and more, this is your day to march as well. Yes, we are celebrating our PRIDE! We are also saying together, the fight for equality is a struggle which cries out for us all to engage our voices and bodies.

Plymouth and other PNWCUCC churches gather in the Lounge at 6:30 pm, this Saturday, June 24, to make signs and decorate our Open and Affirming float; join us! Hold a sign, carry a banner, hand out 10,000 cards with rainbow comma tattoos and UCC ONA information.

Join us at 9 or 11, with Rev. Steve Davis preaching and many other Voices of PRIDE sharing in worship. Sunday street closures begin about 10:30 am, primarily 4th Avenue (check onthemove.seattle.gov).

If you plan to march, enjoy the all-church picnic in the Lounge, then head down to the staging area 12:45 pm to 1:30 pm in the Republic parking lot between Cherry and James and 6th & 7th Avenues. Look for a bright rainbow balloon arch with banners, “God Loves Us All - Share the Love.” If you don’t want to walk the entire parade route and wish to view or cheer us on, walk down University to 4th Avenue after lunch!

The parade route is about 1.5 miles long from Cherry and 7th to Seattle Center. Wear a white t-shirt/top, good walking shoes and ample rainbow accessories! Bring sunscreen, water and snacks. Communion will be served before the parade.

If you would like to be a goodwill ambassador for UCC and distribute rainbow comma tattoos and UCC's ONA literature, as well as represent Plymouth in the festival booth at Seattle Center, please contact Kathy.Dawson@gmail.com.

Registration fees for the parade tripled from last year, plus the Festival booth fee and giveaways add up. Consider donating! Designate checks for “Pride” on the memo line and send to Plymouth Church UCC, 1217 6th Ave, Seattle, WA 98101. Blessings and Happy Pride!
