Choir of Christ’s College Performs at Plymouth

June 26, 2017

The renowned Choir of Christ’s College, Cambridge launches their North America Tour 7 pm, Tuesday, July 11, at Plymouth Church.

Christ’s College, one of the constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge, has enjoyed a chapel choir since 1505. Conducted by Professor David Rowland, Director of Music at Christ’s College, the choir sings music from English and European choral traditions from the 16th to 20th century.

Choral Evensong is sung twice weekly. Singing at feasts, weddings, memorial services and other occasions, the Choir significantly contributes to college life. Today, as one of Cambridge's finest mixed-voice ensembles, the group also performs concerts in Cambridge and around the UK, records, broadcasts and takes international tours each summer. Choir members are selected by audition, and each participant is expected to meet a high musical standard.

The choir offers a broad concert repertoire. This tour they will sing a wide range of music: Parry’s Songs of Farewell, Howell’s Requiem, Finzi’s Lo, The Full, Final Sacrifice, to name a few, maintaining a variety of music from both religious and secular traditions, ranging from Tallis to Britten.

Request for hosts for Christ’s College, Cambridge Choir members in July:

We are seeking simple housing and hospitality for the Christ’s College, Cambridge students who will perform at Plymouth Tuesday, July 11, 2017 and at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Medina.

Details: Choir will go directly to Plymouth July 11 in the afternoon to rehearse.

Host information:

Tuesday July 11: approximately 8:30 pm

Meet student at Plymouth after the concert, and provide transportation home. Attend the 7 pm concert if possible!

Wednesday July 12:

Provide simple breakfast. This is a sightseeing day for the students, so they will mostly be on their own.

6 pm – My partner and I are inviting students to our home in Washington Park for a simple American BBQ. Transportation there would be nice, but students should be able to get to Madison Park via public transport if necessary. Students may be picked up at 8:30 or take public transport to their host home.

Thursday July 13:

This is a free day; Choir will rehearse in the afternoon and perform at St. Thomas, Medina. I’m working through logistics of getting them there, but transportation to St. Thomas, Medina would be appreciated. Potentially, we can also arrange a bus from downtown Seattle and/or UBER transport.

If you would like to know more, please email me at God Bless, and thank you to the Plymouth Congregational Community. I’m amazed by your kindness.  -Marchall Mcreal
