Welcome Home!

September 5, 2017

Welcome to the new program year! Count on a busy, event-filled faith formation fall. Here is the schedule for our entire community, from babies to elders.

First Sunday Brunch: This new Plymouth tradition continues, which gives us a chance to build relationships across generations and get to know each other in new ways. Brunches begin Sunday, October 1, provided we have enough volunteer hosts to keep the program going.

Babies through pre-K: Welcome Saara Bachelder, who will provide child care to our youngest. We are still recruiting volunteers to help Saara; please contact Jennifer if you are interested.

Kindergarten – 5th Grade: Since this is a wide age range, we are trying new things. Some weeks the class will split, with younger elementary kids joining and acting as mentors for younger children. These weeks, older elementary kids will be off exploring their faith in different ways. Patrick September shepherds older elementary kids monthly to walk the streets of downtown and explore what it means to be homeless. We are excited to find a balance that will engage faith formation in new ways across this age group.

6th - 8th Grade: We are blessed to welcome back Anne Kiemle and Beverly Harding-Buehler, who beautifully lead our middle schoolers as they explore their faith.

High School: We are also blessed that Anna Colwell returns to lead this group with Katie Stultz. Kevin Bechtold adds to their leadership team and they are all excited to start!

Sunday School Parents: We will set up monthly parent meetings for each age group, as we know the wisdom and support that is unleashed when you meet!

Adults: Expect new things this fall. With 70+ people singing in our two choirs with rehearsals at 10 am and those who work in Sunday school, too few folks are available to support a weekly, lecture-style program. Hospitality hour now takes place between the 9 am and 11 am services at 10 am. Watch for 10 am small group experiences and occasional 10 am speakers.

Plymouth sponsors four events this fall:

September 16 – Jim Wallis 7 pm at McCaw Hall —
Rev. Kelle Brown on the panel

September 21 – Rita Nakashima Brock – co-sponsored by Plymouth and The Well, 7 pm at The Well, Queen Anne UMC

October 12 - Diana Butler-Bass at Plymouth – co-sponsored by Plymouth and The Well

October 14 – Parenting While Queer at Plymouth —
co-sponsored with Town Hall. 3 pm.

All are ticketed events, and Plymouth offers scholarships for those who need them. Contact Jennifer to request a scholarship.

Lastly, Plymouth engages the UCC’s white privilege curriculum this fall. Gather as a large group at Plymouth for the beginning and end of this six-week study, and gather in small neighborhood groups for in-between weeks. If you would like to host a neighborhood group, please contact Jennifer Watch the Herald for the starting date of this study. I look forward to experiencing what God will do in and through us this fall!
