Discovering Gratitude

October 10, 2017

Diana Butler Bass will be here at Plymouth 7 pm, Thursday, October 12, to talk about her new book, The Transformative Power of Giving Thanks, with pre-event discussion 12:15 pm Sunday, October 8, in Room 221. I hope you can attend. You'll have to wait until April to read the book, but pre-publication buzz is positive. You can read Bass' previous books now! They are on the shelf in Plymouth Library and listed below.

Consider gratitude. There are some people who are never grateful. Nothing is good enough for them. Others consciously practice gratitude every day. And then there are those of us in-between. We are grateful for sunny days. We are grateful for a delicious meal, good company and times when everything goes well. That's good. That's better than always looking for the fly in the ointment, and if there is no fly, finding one. But what about days when things go wrong? When we feel grumpy? Or those truly horrid days when something catastrophic happens? Who is going to get through the bad days better, even the truly horrid days – the person who can find something for which to be grateful or the one who curses their misfortune? –Suzanne Sanderson, Plymouth Church Librarian
