Deacon Ministry off to a Good Start

October 3, 2017

Plymouth’s new group of deacons met recently for a sharing and training session. Rev. Kelle Brown facilitated a discussion about Biblical texts that describe the work of deacons among the early followers of Jesus. Rev. Donene Blair led a group dialogue about ways deacons can serve and care for others, while maintaining confidentiality and healthy boundaries.

We also discussed duties and responsibilities of deacons in congregational life. Deacons will serve alongside the pastoral care staff as part of Plymouth’s new collaborative ministry model.

We are most grateful for those who stepped forward to embrace this new ministry at Plymouth. In November during worship, deacons will be commissioned with a ritual and a congregational blessing. –Rev. Donene Blair
