All are invited to attend an incredible Dia de los Muertos Concert at 3 pm, Sunday, Nov. 5, All Saint's Day. This concert, consisting of the Fauré Requiem and other orchestral pieces, is an exciting collaboration with friends from Seattle's Latino community. Plymouth Soul Choir and Chancel Choir and Singing in the Rain Family Choir will be joined by Ballard Civic Orchestra, conducted by Mexican American conductor Paula Nava Madrigal. Sponsored in part by the Mexican Consulate, donations benefit Plymouth's longtime partners at Casa Latina.
Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday to honor dead ancestors. The three-day fiesta is filled with marigolds, the flowers of the dead, muertos (the bread of the dead), sugar skulls, cardboard skeletons, tissue paper decorations, fruit and nuts, incense and other traditional foods and decorations. Singers will be adorned with marigolds and there will be an ofrenda, or altar to the dead, where all are welcome to bring photos or mementos of deceased loved ones to memorialize. We hope you will join us in celebration and gorgeous music. Over 100 musicians will participate–hopefully we can figure out where to put everybody!
