"I’m ALL IN! " Living into Our Legacy

November 15, 2017

As we gather for worship this Sunday, we invite each other to experience living abundantly as a people who encounter God’s faithfulness and blessing as a gift. Plymouth Church UCC exists today out of the vision of those whose faith was running over, leaving us a legacy through which our faith would be shaped in which we would create a living legacy for others. We thank God for dreamers who saw beyond what might have seemed reasonable! We thank God for all the faithful community who dared to step up and stretch beyond comfortable to be part of the work they knew God continued to draw them. We thank God for all whose legacy of generosity and determination gave us opportunities to find our way and welcome new dreamers and darers to journey forward and live into our legacy!

This Sunday, “I’m ALL IN!” comes to the high moment of dedicating ourselves and our gifts to God for 2018. As we pray this week, we ask God to show us how we can respond in faith that begins to live into our legacy in a new way. With the challenges of time and resources, and the reality of our dreams for our present and future, we will make our commitments together and bring them into the space of sacred community. Following our worship services, we will gather in Hildebrand Hall for lunch and a time of sharing as we celebrate who we are together, and who God calls us to become. If you’re not able to be present for worship or the luncheon to turn in your 2018 Pledge Card, please mail it to the Church or drop it by so we may have it with the others being turned in as our act of dedication.

We ask you to prayerfully consider your gifts of “first fruits” to the ministry which God has given us. We invite you to take part by increasing your percentage of giving, taking steps up toward a tithe of 10%, or going beyond in your ability to share the abundance which God has brought into your life. Pledging increases our ability to effectively plan for ministry in 2018 with confidence. Pledging directly impacts how Community Service and Social Action ministry is funded and able to engage in work beyond Plymouth Church UCC. Pledging and becoming an Automatic Giver brings a foundation and stability to step forward in assurance, thankful for the known support of all who hold a portion of the Plymouth legacy in their care. Together, we stand in faith that through us, God will do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think!

With our dreams for Plymouth Church UCC ever-expanding, our Stewardship Campaign “Ask” reflects many things which we know will not ultimately be funded through our annual budget resources. The total of $2.5+ million dollars for all the priority areas offers us opportunity. Our hope through your pledges, your automatic giving and regular generosity, and the continuing conversations toward adopting a budget for 2018, is to share what we hope to be a faithful way forward. Yes, we will be stretched. Yes, we will be challenged. Yes, we will find the way God has in store for us to faithfully live into our own legacy and resoundingly share through our gifts, labors and faith, “I’m ALL IN!”

Thank you for your dedication and your faith in God and the Plymouth Church UCC community! -Rev. Steven Davis
