New in Covenant: Michael Stanley and Brittany Barran

April 17, 2018

Welcome Michael Stanley and Brittany Barran, new in Covenant here at Plymouth!

Tell us about yourselves and family members; where you grew up, your family, educational background, work and favorite activities.

Britt: I grew up in Neenah, Wisconsin. I have a younger sister in California and my parents still reside in Wisconsin but will be move to Nevada in the fall. (We are excited for the sunny escape!) I got my BFA in graphic design at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Michael and I married in 2004 and we lived in Evanston, Illinois (Chicago) with our beloved Portuguese Water Dog. We all moved to Seattle in September 2013 after falling in love with the PNW over the years and specifically with the abundance of opportunities for active adventures in the mountains. We are both avid mountain bikers, hikers and outdoors lovers. When not playing in the great outdoors, I am an associate design director for a design consultancy and spend my days communicating big ideas through visual design and storytelling.

Michael: In addition to being outdoor enthusiasts, we are also beer and wine enthusiasts and a lot of our adventures end at a brewery or vintner tasting room. We share a lot of our adventures with our 11-year-old Portuguese Water Dog Gromit (yep after the dog in Wallace and Gromit!). He goes everywhere with us.

I have worked in the jewelry industry for 35 years. I started as a bench jeweler at a wholesale jewelry manufacture in Chicago. I eventually moved to sorting diamonds for placement into the rings we made and working in the diamond house side of the business. The company I worked for sold jewelry to Ben Bridge, Nordstrom’s fine jewelry department, EE Robins and several other Seattle area stores. I currently work for Joseph Jewelry in Bellevue as their Gemologist.

-How and why did you choose Plymouth as your church home?

Britt: Michael and I were members and married in a UCC church in Evanston. After visiting many churches in Seattle, Plymouth felt like home. We love the community, advocacy and the amazing sermons and music each week.

Michael: I grew up Catholic; my mom is first generation Slovak; my dad was Methodist before marrying my mom. Britt and I went to a several Congregational churches in the area and found ourselves returning to Plymouth; we feel most at home here.

-Where in the Seattle area do you live?

We live in Madison Valley and feel blessed to have the Arboretum so close.

-What and/or who most inspires you?

Britt: I am most inspired by music. I grew up playing cello and it's been “in my blood” since a young age. The power of music to move and communicate always amazes me.
